SERENGETI NORTH CAMP

ABOUT

Kirurumu Serengeti North Camp is a luxury mobile camp, moved seasonally to take best advantage of the vast Serengeti. The camp is used as a base, a spring board for an early morning game drive, a break for a sumptuous lunch, a respite from the heat of the day and the finale to a days adventure where stories can be swapped around a fire. As a small and intimate camp the staff are on hand just to look after a very limited number of guests and so the level of attention and service is always excellent. The entire camp may be exclusively reserved for your private party.

This seasonal camp is open from June through to October each year and we are at classic and beautiful Sonzo private site at Kogatende. We are not permanent and use our seasonality and possible changing camp locations within a general area as being the most strategic given that the migration is is unpredictable but always reachable from our camps. Generally we avoid the most congested areas and use our superior knowledge and many years of exeprience to be located in ares that are less busy but excellent for wildlife.

One can never guarantee seeing the wildebeest migration but for this time of year our campsite is exceptionally well placed for wildebeest crossings of the great Mara River. The Kogatende area is characterised by rolling savannah woodland with far reaching views of the escarpment that borders the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and Kenya.

FROM OUR GUESTS

I had a wonderful time on my photo safari with Hoopoe. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and enjoyed teaching. I had dozens of naive questions and always felt invited to ask anything I wanted to ask. (I frankly had not done much homework in preparation for the trip, so I knew next to nothing about animal behavior.) We saw thousands of animals, many of them close enough to get sharp photos of their eyelashes. The tent accommodations are magical. You can leave your solid flaps open if you choose, to hear animals better at night and to see them in the moonlight or early light. This was the most comfortable tenting I have ever done, with good beds, solar-powered electricity, indoor toilets, and showers. The staff are very friendly and helpful and are also excellent cooks. I requested vegetarian food and it was delicious. I most enthusiastically recommend Hoopoe Safaris. If I am able to go to Tanzania again, I'll definitely go with Hoopoe.

ACTIVITES

The Serengeti camp is your springboard into the Serengeti, essential for the migration and seasonally well located to take advantage of activities such as hot air ballooning (note that access to hot air ballooning is seasonal as the balloon rides start in central Serengeti). The Serengeti is the place to game drive and has the largest concentration of wildlife in the world. The following activites are all possible :

Game Viewing

Excellent game viewing in the Serengeti National Park - a spectacular sight of mass migration

Mara Crossing

The animal kingdom and mother-nature's most spectacular phenomenon. Never guaranteed as the crossings are weather dependent

Bush TV

Sit back, enjoy a beverage and/or a conversation by the campfire dubbed Bush TV, under the luminous starry night sky

Bush Lunch

Enjoy your afternoon full course lunch under acacia trees and on the native kopjes home to many lion prides. An unforgettable experience.

Hot Air Balloon

Although we advise against this activity due to the disturbance of wildlife, balloon safaris are available

"This was our second safari and the first staying in a national park and also at a 'mobile' camp. It moves every 3-4 months to follow the Wildebeest migration, so was in the Northern Serengeti when we stayed.
First impression was 'wow, we really are in the middle of no where!' The 'tents' are large, have a flushing toilet, shower, sink and large comfortable bed. Perfect. Remember you're hear for the wild life, the tent is just where you recover from the days excitement.
The camp staff, especially our new Rafiki, Sam, were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble.

I have no idea how they produce such good food in a camp but it was outstanding.
Sitting by a fire, listening to the call of hyenas is a magical experience in itself. We could also hear them from the tent and had zebras come very close one night as well!
The game drives were exceptional and our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, even when called upon to change a flat tyre! We saw stunning animals, a wildebeest river crossing and a great interaction between a large croc and an even larger hippo.

Recommending Kirurumu is easy to do, there was nothing I could fault them on."
